                                                             The Man Behind the Mask

King of Mystery, Rey Mysterio is a legendary masked luchador, arguably the most famous masked fighter of all time. Mysterio began his career twenty-one years ago in WCW as a cruiser-weight. Throughout his career Mysterio has performed in tag-teams and solo. Some of his most glorified partnerships were with Batista, Sin Cara, Eddie Guerrero and Edge. In 2002 Mysterio and Edge reined as the tag team champions of Smackdown. Mysterio has won four out of seven WrestleMania matches. At WresteMania 22, Mysterio won the World Heavy Weight Championship. At five-foot-six, 175 pounds, Mysterio was the smallest athlete to ever hold the title. 42-year-old Mysterio is a three-time WWE champion and a future Hall of Fame inductee.

Mysterio’s performance style is rooted in traditional Lucha fighting. Bright, colorful masks worn by the superstar symbolize honor for ancient Aztec warriors. The mask is also a tribute to Mysterio’s uncle and culture. For Lucha wrestlers, the mask is significant to identity. Mysterio says “There’s a big mental change when the mask goes on, its action time and I transform myself.”

Also known as the Ultimate Underdog and Winged Crusader, Mysterio is praised for his in-ring agility and flying tricks. His signature move is the “619” double leg kick, named after the California area code of his hometown. Other popular moves executed by the superstar include The Bulldog, which results in a devastating face slam for the opponent, the Tornado DDT, head kick, diving legdrop, Moonsault flip, West Coast Pop and off-the-top-rope Frog Splash.

The Winged Crusader is a former Intercontinental Champion and Royal Rumble winner. Mysterio competed in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 30 and was one of seven final competitors in the match. In 2003 he played a stunt double role in the horror movie Freddy VS Jason. He also wrote and voiced his entrance theme song “Crossing Boarders,” a heart-felt hip-hop song that tells the journey of his life.

Currently Mysterio stars on Lucha Underground. Since he was signed in 2015, Mysterio has held the Trios Championship title with Dragon Azteca Jr. and Prince Puma. Rey Mysterio is a father, a fighter and a powerful role model. He is an inspiration for those who have a passion and want to live their dream.
